My Musical Culture

Hey guys! So, my name is Faith Sides and I am from Gaffney, South Carolina. If you do not already know, I am huge fan of music- but then again, who isn't? Music for me has always been this go-to thing for me, like when I am stressed, sad, happy, or whenever I just want to sing my heart out Jesus. I love chill, relaxing, music and even classical music at times. Music that has a good beat will always catch my ear and heart. Not going to lie, I even enjoy sad, and slow music. I will also use music for when I am doing homework, or even when I am working out. I ALWAYS have to have music playing whenever I am working out, makes the workout so much easier, quicker, and more enjoyable for me. As you read on, you will get to read or listen to some of my favorite songs and artists, and even my most disliked one as well, and I really hope you enjoy every one of them as much as I do.

1. An example of music that is important to me is the artist Lauren Daigle and her song "Rescue". The reason I chose this song is because every time I listen to the song, it is a nice little reminder for me that God is and always will be there for me and hear my cries. Every time I am in my car and driving somewhere, I always pull out her playlist and listen to it. Listening to her music is my time to have a nice worship before school or practice. Her music always conveys a strong message about or from the Lord. I have many favorite songs of hers but my personal favorite is "Rescue".
2. An example of my go-to music during the lockdown was the Artist Bryce Vince. Bryce vine's music is overall very chill and relaxing. His music always has that good vibe feeling and an extremely good beat. His music automatically sets me in a good mood and gives me nothing but happy thoughts. His lyrics relates to all types of teenagers and young adults out there in the world such as myself. One of my personal favorites of his is the song "Sunflower Seeds".
3. An example of music that I do not connect with or understand would be the artist Miley Cyrus. When I was younger I use to listen to her music and even then still did not like it. Although she did have one song that I did like which was the song "The Climb". Ever since Miley Cyrus transitioned back from Hannah Montanna, she, in my opinion, has just gone downhill. I have never really understood her music or connected with it which just made me dislike it even more. Her music gives me an awful vibe and makes me want to turn the station every time I hear her music or voice come on. One song in particular that I disliked of hers was "Wrecking Ball".

  2. I am going to be really honest with you, I do not listen to any of these artists or have heard of them except for Miley Cyrus. I wasn't a fan of her song, "wrecking Ball" either. It was drastic from the other songs she produced a couple years before that. I love her older music because it makes me feel calm, but her new music doesn't do that for me. Sometimes I still listen to her old music because it still makes a part of me happy. I am really interested in your artists and songs you chose, so I am going to dig deeper into it, and see how much I like it.

  3. Rescue by Lauren Daigle shows her vulnerability and how she was in a dark time. I have never heard this song but I can see why many people love this song. I see a lot of people going back to this song when tuff situations are in their life. Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus has not been one of my favorites as well. Many of her music is very different from Wrecking Ball. Her older songs would bring me a sense of happiness but this song was not it for me.

  4. I like sad music too. Would you agree that the emotional context of the piece is more important than the technical composition or not? What is your thoughts on the gentrification of music in the mainstream? Does it bother you that songs with little emotional weight are the ones that are the most popular?
