Music and Gender
Hey guys, I hope you all are doing well. I honestly feel like I am going through a mid-life crisis, but that's okay. For this blog today I will be writing about music and gender, the music I listen to and who sings the song. I usually never really paid attention to which gender sung which song or genre of music, but ever since this blog topic, I have. I listen to a variety of music and both genders-- but I am more than sure everyone else does too. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this blog:))
For my first topic I will be talking about rappers. I think it is fair enough to say that I usually listen to male rappers, mainly because rappers were typically male. I think they feel "cooler" by being a rapper because rap music has a ton of cool beats and "cool-dude" dance moves. Today though, their are more female rappers evolving out there. You normally do not see a lot of females aspire to be a girl rapper, and if they did, most people would say that the girls do not have that "rapper voice". One such female rapper, Cardi B, should not be a rapper... or singer... or famous (in my opinion). Cardi B does not have that rapper vibe. Nicki Minaj, though, is one good female rapper I do not mind listening to. A particular famous male rapper that I love listening to is Post Malone. Post Malone's music is one my many go-to artist whenever I am in any type of mood. Post Malone could even be a country singer with the way his voice is. I am not going to lie, listening to Post Malone sing is one of the best feelings ever. He is a rapper, yet he has that comforting, at the same time energetic, beautiful voice. Most male rappers like to spit fire and ramble on in different languages (seems like a different language most times), while with Post, you can go along with his awesome vibe of music and understand the words at the same time. Down below is one of my many favorites of Post Malone's rap music.
For my last topic, I will talk about country singers. In todays world of country singers, there are more male singers than female. Male country singers are much more able to hit the lower notes by having a deeper tone. Even in older times there were more male country singers than female. One singer in particular, Conway Twitty, was one of my childhood favorites. Conway Twitty was an American country singer who also had a success in rock and roll, R&B, and pop genres. Unfortunately, my favorite country singer passed away from an abdominal aortic aneurysm in 1993. There are some country songs where the male and female sing together in the same song. For example, "Meant to be", and it was a top hit in the USA. One possible reason why there are more male singers, and that they are the most popular is because the ladies LOVE to listen/see themselves a nice country man. The majority of the females on my instagram page drool over and listen to male country singers, and are always posting about them. I wanted to share a Conway Twitty song with you guys because he is just that great and I believed we all deserve some good music to listen to.
Hello Faith! I really enjoyed reading your blog. I liked that you chose multiple genres of music to talk specifically about rather than music as a whole. I however, do respectfully disagree with you about Cardi B. I love her rap music! As well as Nikki! I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteHello, I hope you feel better. Anyways, I wanted to tell you I really enjoyed your blog! I agree with you on how we really don't pay attention to the gender of who sings a song. The layout of your vlog made it very easy to read. I enjoyed how you well explained rap, pop culture, and country.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize how men dominated the music industry until this topic. I liked how you talked about multiple genres and pointed out a pattern. It's always in the news when women are on top of the charts and get a number one hit. Your blog really made me realize why that's such a big deal now because men get number ones more often than women.
