Music and Family
Hello friends! I hope you all have had a great day so far and week haha, but lets get started on this blog! So I was going to interview my boyfriend of two years because he was seriously considered family to my family and me but unfortunately we broke up almost a week ago (the thing is though, is that I never ever saw that coming haha... who knew) I am fine though, really. He wasn't worth it that much anyways (just a sis tryna make herself feel better I guess). So because of my breakup, I am having to interview a different boyfriend who is considered family as well (don't worry, I am not a hoe, it is my sister's boyfriend). His name is Dylan and he is in the military and is a pretty cool guy with some pretty cool music taste. Here is a picture of him so you all can get an idea of what this fella looks like. :)
Me: So to start it off, what kind of music did you listen to?
Dylan: Well, I like country music, rap, and rock.
Me: Oh, you like rock, I never pegged you as the kind of person to listen to rock haha. Did your parents like the music you listened to?
Dylan: Yeah I am. But no, not really. My dad liked my rock music and so he was the one who influenced rock music on me. They liked some of it but not all of it.
Me: Ah. Did you ever take any music classes or join any choirs?
Dylan: I never joined the choir but I did take a recorder class in elementary school.
Me: What's a recorder class?
Dylan: Oh its just a plastic flute, it's very basic.
Me: So I know you go to church, but what kind of music do they typically sing and which do you prefer?
Dylan: They do both traditional and contemporary, but I prefer the contemporary.
Me: Do you have any favorite Christian songs or favorite Christian artist?
Dylan: Yeah, the song Rescue by Lauren Daigle but my favorite Christian singer would have to be Casting Crowns.
Me: Oh I love Lauren Daigle!! I also like Casting Crowns too haha. What about your earliest musical memory? Do you have one or any at all?
Dylan: Yes, I remember when I was younger my dad and I use to sit down together in the living room on Saturday nights and watch the country and rock music videos on TNT. It was like our little bonding moment... I loved it haha
Me: That's awesome. Lets talk about you and Ashley (my sister), do you guys have a special song or "the song"?
(He got so happy when I asked this question, like his face lit up so bright and smiley)
Dylan: Yesss!! Our song is "Better Together" by Luke Holmes and I think the name explains why it is our song too.
Me: Awe haha I love that so much... so has your music taste ever changed throughout the years or has it always been the same?
Dylan: No, it has always been the same.
Me: Oh okay, well that's not a bad thing. What inspired your music taste and what you listen to? Parents? Friends? The radio?
Dylan: Well, my dad is the one who influenced me to listen to rock music because that is what he always listened to and I just grew in love with it too. My mom is the one who influenced my country taste, she always listened to country music. My friends have kinda had an influence on the rap music.
Me: Ah that's interesting. Why and when do you listen to music?
Dylan: Well, I listen to certain music whenever I am in a certain mood. When I am sad I listen to Sam Smith's "I'm not the only one", when I am happy I listen to "Little Rain" by Morgan Wallen. Whenever I workout I listen to rock music and whenever I am cleaning I listen to country music. I listen to music because I like the way it makes me feel.
Me: Yeah I agree, I love the way it makes me feel too. Makes me feel happy and calm. What do you think about our generation's music? How would you feel about older music coming back instead?
Dylan: I think its stupid and not as good it use to be. The lyrics do not make any sense and there's no purpose or soul to it. But I would like for it to come back, it would be super cool and really nice. I personally would want Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, and Elvis to all come back.
Me: Yes, I agree with all of that. Have you ever been to any concerts, because I haven't.
Dylan: I've been to a Winter Jam and a Chris Stapleton concert, they were really cool and I enjoyed them a lot. I would love to go to another one.
Me: I have always wanted to go to a concert, especially a Bryce Vine, Post Malone, or Lauren Daigle concert. Alright, last question. What do you think the purpose of music is and what makes it beautiful?
Dylan: Hmmm... I believe it is to inspire others... to make you feel some way and make you feel like you relate to it in a certain way. What makes it beautiful? The instruments, for sure.
Me: I like that answer, I especially find music beautiful whenever a piano is involved. But thank you for your time and letting me interview you, I loved your answers and what you had to say!
Dylan: No problem.
Hey Faith! So first off, I do want to say I'm really sorry about your break up, I know you say you're ok, but it's really ok, not to be ok. Breaking up sucks, and the healing process can take some time, but you got this :). Now as for the interview I really enjoyed it! it was a smooth read and I really caught my attention. Thank you for the lovely post faith! and hang in there girly!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started reading your blog, I got this gut wretched feeling because going through a breakup and not even seeing it, really hits you hard. I know that not a lot of people in this class are close, but I am a very open person and if you ever need someone to talk to I am here. What I loved about your blog is that although your sisters boyfriend is not blood related, he is related by soul and that is what makes this special. I liked how he explained our generations music, and how it has no soul to it, I can agree with him on a good bit of it. The last thing I want to say is that I love how you typed in that his face lit up when he was talking about your sister.
ReplyDeleteI'm also going through a break up and I respect you putting that out there because I'm personally still in denial and don't like saying it out loud. Everything happens for a reason though. I don't recognize many of the songs you guys talked about, but there were many sweet moments like how his face lit up talking about your sister. I also understand why he said there's no soul in music today, but it's all about the artists you pick to listen to.
